Microsoft's got a winner: WorldWide Telescope is here
The free site went live yesterday.
"The WorldWide Telescope is a Web 2.0 visualization software environment that enables your computer to function as a virtual telescope — bringing together imagery from the best ground and space-based telescopes in the world for a seamless exploration of the universe."
I like it.
Should be a nice complement to Google Sky.

......Except Google Sky works for Macintosh without having to dual boot.....WWT is PC only. I'll pass. I prefer Stellarium for casual night sky viewing. In fact, I used it two nights ago to show my friend visiting from Colorado that it was Jupiter that was shining bright through DC's light pollution. By geographically positioning the user, Stellarium automatically shows what the night sky looks like in your backyard. I haven't tried the newest version of Google Sky, but I've been satisfied with Stellarium since I don't care as much about looking into deep space as care for looking up into the night's sky.
