Vivaldi — Four Seasons (Dresden Version with Winds)

The other day I was just standing here moseying along at my usual speed (0.7 mph — but you knew that) when Paul Bachmann on XM Pops radio ("Classical's Greatest Hits", XM channel 113/DirecTV channel 866) via DirecTV started talking about the "Dresden Version" of Vivaldi's classic work.

Say what?

The announcer went on to explain that this version added wind instruments including recorders, oboes, horns and bassoons.

As best I recall he said the reason it's called the Dresden Version is that it was first performed in this fashion in that city.

Exciting, what?

I listened and was enchanted by this new — to provincial, limited horizons little old moi — take on a familiar piece.

Have to hear that again.
