'Who's Blogging?' — The Washington Post hooks up with bookofjoe
Last evening I noticed a number of people had visited bookofjoe from the Washington Post's website.
How'd that happen? I wondered.
I went back into the web and found they'd clicked on bookofjoe from this story's sidebar (above), which took people to yesterday's 2:01 p.m. post discussing the article (below).
Huh.
That's pretty interesting, that I'm linked via the Washington Post's site.
And I suppose it's a tacit nod of approval/blind eye to the fact that I routinely publish the Post's stories in their entirety, as I did in the post they linked to.
I would expect my attorney — should push come to legal shove in the Fair Use arena —
might well use this as evidence on my behalf.

Not to piss on your parade or take anything away from the allsomeness that is bookofjoe.com, but the Washington Post has been doing this since at least September of 2005 (when I discovered a link on even my SiteMeter). They partnered with Technorati to add that functionality to their Web pages. Smart indeed - read the news and what the bloggers say about the news at the same time (for those who are interested in that kind of journalistic chicanery). This year, they also added a "Tag This Article" button that allows a reader to post an article directly to her Del.icio.us page.
Full disclosure: I have never met Joe Stirt; I have never spoken with Joe Stirt. I have seen him on TV, but it was really on the Web even then - as it was a TV clip posted on a news Web site. I have, on occasion, exchanged emails with him. Last year, however, I was named a B-list crackpot research team member at bookofjoe.com — this event was among the top 10 things that happened to me in 2005. Sad, but true. ;)

And bit by bit, it grows, and grows... boj is like the punchline to the old joke: Stand back, there's no telling how big this thing's gonna get!
